Why can the phone number on my website change for different visitors?

A call-tracking tool can replace the phone number on your website after the page loads. Depending on the provider, the number can change with the visitor or the ad that brought them. The provider uses it to attribute calls and forwards each call to your dealership.

Remora does not provide call-tracking numbers or run call-tracking services. We update the phone numbers on your website and can identify the third-party script that changes them. Number ownership, account access, forwarding, and porting belong with your call-tracking provider.

We recommend one consistent phone number for shoppers. Number swapping favors ad attribution over a consistent contact experience. If your dealership chooses to use it, we install the approved integration and verify it with your provider.

Department numbers

When changing a tracking number, list the affected websites and whether it replaces the main sales number, another department's number, or every number. A sales tracking number may forward only to the sales line, and Service or Parts callers using it would reach the wrong team.

Name the places that should change: header, footer, contact information, and click-to-call links. We make the update once the department scope is clear.

An unfamiliar number

If a number looks unfamiliar, send us the page and how you got there, such as through an ad or by typing the address. Tell us the device and whether the number changes after the page loads. That shows us whether we are seeing your website's number or one inserted by a tracking script.

We can find the integration responsible and confirm the website loads the intended script once. After a change, your provider should confirm that numbers swap and calls appear in its reporting. Your provider can also confirm which account owns the number and where its calls go.
